What’s your reason for learning Spanish?
Maybe your favorite vacation destination is Mexico, and you would like to interact more with the locals. Maybe you are a homeschool student who needs a foreign-language credit. Or maybe your significant other is a Spanish-speaker and you would like to communicate with him in his native language. Whatever the reason, this Spanish 1 course will get you off to a great start toward Spanish fluency.
Why learn grammar?
We all love to see fast progress. That’s why within the first few units of this course you will be able to have a basic conversation in Spanish, asking and answering common questions such as, how are you, what’s your name, where are you from, etc. The type of fluency that will allow you to converse freely on an extended variety of topics, however, will take time. While there are many effective ways to learn a foreign language, my preferred option as someone who has both learned and taught a foreign language, is a systematic study of the language that includes instruction in grammar. If you were to liken building a house to learning a language, grammar would be your foundation. Once this solid base is in place, it can support independent learning thru reading, watching tv, and listening to the radio in Spanish, as well as interacting with Spanish speakers. If you are willing to put in the time, you will be well on your way toward conversational Spanish!
